Pros and Cons of Dog Training Class

pros and cons of dog training class

pros and cons of dog training classThere is no doubt that dog training classes are popular. It’s cheaper than private lessons and you get to work with other dog owners of the same skill set. It’s also a great opportunity to observe how others work with their dog. Here are some pros and cons to taking a dog training class.

Pros

  • Practice around other dogs in a controlled setting
  • Get to see others techniques and skills for better learning
  • Group setting helps you realize that you’re not the only one in that situation
  • Helps you get “real world” dog handling and training experience in a guided setting

Cons

  • Very distracting environment to begin training
  • It is a difficult environment to learn in for many dogs
  • There can be tension between dogs if all dogs are on leash
  • Students tend to ignore their dogs while listening to the teacher

Personally, I’m not sure I’d begin with a class. I think it’s a good idea to get started with training before you get to class. Your success also depends on the instructor and their skill in leading a class.
